Witzzle Operations

This lesson plan is an excerpt from Witzzle Pro Resource Book.

Suggested Levels: Grades 2 and up

Prerequisite: * Know basic facts for all four operations.

Objectives: * Provide opportunity for students to write two-chained number sentences to reach a target number.

Materials: * Witzzle Pro Math Game
* Witzzle Pro Transparency Game Cards

Directions: 1. Select a Witzzle Pro transparency card. Display it on the overhead projector.
2. Choose one row of three numbers in a straight line (diagonally, horizontally, or vertically). Ask students to solve this puzzle:

+

 = 9

and then

 = 1
Then translate the solution to two number sentences. Select operation symbols to make true equations. Every number can be used ONCE AND ONLY ONCE in every calculation.

Example:

For the diagonal set of numbers 5, 8, and 4, write these two number sentences: 5+4=9 and 9-8=1.
